Blur bassist and acclaimed cheesemaker Alex James has further diversified his skills by creating his very own cider, aptly named Britpop. In collaboration with Westons Cider, Alex has created a lightly carbonated medium dry cider made with bitter sweet and bitter sharp English cider apples. These have been carefully picked from orchards within England’s ‘Cider Belt’ comprising Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. This delicious cider is ideal when paired with food, particularly with Alex’s cheese!
Blur bassist Alex James was not only in one of the most successful Brit-pop bands of all time, but he has also made a name for himself as an acclaimed cheesemaker. As if this wasn’t enough, Alex has now set his sights on cider making.
His passion for local food and drink has seen him excel with his own brand of cheese and it seemed natural to start dabbling with cider, thus Britpop cider was born!
Britpop is a 5.5% ABV fresh juice, oak-conditioned cider made using bitter-sweet and bitter-sharp apples and was launched in the Summer of 2021 at Alex’s own festival, ‘The Big Feastival’ It was met with much praise, and even became the festival’s bestselling drink.
From this Alex was able to host a commercial product launch with The Midcounties Co-operative as part of its ‘Best of Our Counties’ range which is a unique range of locally and ethically sourced British food and drink.
