Cotswold Brew Co. is one of the oldest lager microbreweries in the UK. They brew lager in the way that German and Belgian breweries have been doing for centuries; using only the four essential ingredients of water, hops, malted barley and yeast. There are no awful additives, pesky preservatives and their beers are unpasteurised.
Cotswold Brew Co. continues to innovate with beers and lagers, and now includes distilling Cotswold Gin and Vodka is their impressive skill-set and product range.
With a nod to the marvellous old school brewhouses of Bavaria, Cotswold Brew Co do things the classic way with added twists thrown in here and there, developing brewing methods to enhance natural flavours. The brewery is based in Bourton-on- the-Water, where their lager is brewed from scratch.
Rick and Emma Keene established the Cotswold Brew Co way back in 2005 when they identified a gap in the market for an authentic lager brewed in the UK. Rick’s intention for his new brewery was to make lager that tasted as good as those found in Bavaria, at a time when almost all lager in the UK was mass-produced and of relatively inferior quality. Cotswold Brew Co has always focused on lager but for many years chose to limit supply to the immediate area so that the Keene’s could maintain a work/life balance with their young family. It has only been the last 18 months that Cotswold Brew Co products have been available nationally.
Cotswold Premium Lager was first served to customers in September 2005. Rick was adamant he would only ever brew one style of lager but here we are 14 years later with the widest and most comprehensive range of lagers in the UK, so he clearly lost that battle…!
