A family owned vineyard in the Cotswolds creating award winning English wines.

About Woodchester Valley

Woodchester Valley Vineyard was established by the Shiner family in 2007. A boutique estate across three vineyard sites at Amberley, Doverow, and Woodchester; they specialise in producing white, rosé and sparkling wines from vines planted on the limestone soils of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Their first vintage, a crisp dry Bacchus was produced from their 2010 harvest. This was followed by a further planting in 2011, with the Woodchester site planted in 2012 (20 acres), and Doverow in 2013 (another 20 acres). The winery was established in 2016, with their 2016 vintage being the first year they produced their wines on site.

About the Range

They make a variety of still and sparkling wines, both white and rosé using a selection of grape varieties. Their four-tonne press has the ability to process the grapes for the still wines in an inert environment using nitrogen, eliminating oxygen and preventing deterioration of the flavour and aromatic potential of the wines.

Their wines are then fermented at low temperatures, preserving these primary flavours and aromas. They are then settled in tanks equipped with a positive nitrogen gas system that prevents any potential oxidation from ullage space.

Their sparkling wines are made using the traditional method, and have a minimum of 2 years on the lees before they are released.

Sustainability

Woodchester Valley has been recognised as a Sustainable business by receiving accreditation to the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) Scheme.

Much of the work they do in the vineyards is by hand, reducing diesel emissions and soil compaction from tractor use.

In the winery, they record all energy and water usage data, seek to reduce these as much as possible and initiate working practices to help us achieve these goals.

Their commitment to sustainability means that every year they will be looking to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and review the improvements.
